Boys' reading issues get a lot of press, but did you know that girls are just as likely to suffer from dyslexia, and often cloak issues with reading that are no less real than boys'? We've put together a great new leaflet with top tips for engaging girls, including loads of ideas for librarians.
Tony Bradman's 'Sam and Ruby's Olympic Adventure' was launched in style on 18th April 2012 at The City Academy in Hackney. The book was written, edited and designed with the support of young people from all over Hackney - one of London 2012's Olympic Boroughs - and representatives from all schools involved attended the event. The young people read from the text, spoke about the rationale behind the jacket they designed for their special 'Hackney edition' and heard from one of the Borough's young Poet Laureates. It was particularly fitting that the launch coincided with the milestone of 100 days until the Games. Barrington Stoke thanks The Learning Trust for making this wonderful project happen, and all the young people for their contributions. STOP PRESS: the first printing of 'Sam and Ruby' has sold out - new copies are due on this site and in bookshops in May!
Barrington Stoke has been short-listed for Children's Publisher of the Year in the IPG Awards!
Author Tony Bradman has been out and about visiting Hackney schools with Sam and Ruby's Olympic Adventure through the Booklinks project.
Sam and Ruby was originally developed in conjunction with young people across Hackney in celebration of London 2012 and so Tony was particularly delighted to be back in the Borough. He visited Brook and Nightingale Schools and was met with some seriously impressive displays of work on the book, from jacket and character designs to book reviews and stories inspired by Sam and Ruby.
