A profoundly intimate and moving story, One Shot is a masterfully told novella that depicts one young woman’s fight for survival in the harsh landscape of 19th Century America:
When your childhood disappears in a blizzard. When you’re a girl in a man’s world. When the only thing that stands between you and a life worth having is a gun. You’re only going to get one shot …
We are huge fans of Tanya’s powerful short novel and it is absolutely one of our stars of the year, so we’re delighted to see it make this shortlist. The Scottish Teenage Book Prize is voted for and decided by young people from schools and libraries across Scotland and we have everything crossed that One Shot will be their final pick!
Of the shortlisting Tanya has said:
“I’m utterly thrilled to be shortlisted for the Scottish Teenage Book Prize! My husband died in 2017 and for a long time I thought I’d never write another word. One Shot is the book that broke the block.”
If you’d like to find out more about the award and how to get involved with your school or library, head here to the Scottish Book Trust website where you can sign up to vote, download class resources and watch videos from all three shortlisted authors.
Congratulations again, Tanya! Three cheers for One Shot and brilliant short novels for all readers to enjoy!
