Victor Ambrus

Victor Ambrus was born in Hungary in 1935 but fled in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution. After studying at the Royal College of Art in London, where he met his wife Glenys, Victor went on to become a true legend in children’s illustration, working on almost 300 books and twice winning the Kate Greenaway Medal. As the artist on Channel 4’s Time Team, Victor brought sites under excavation to life – for many viewers, his superb artwork was far more exciting than the show’s 3D computer graphics.
